Tasai Mokume Bench Chisel Set - 10pc
Description
Description
Simply the most beautiful set of chisels currently in manufacture anywhere in the world. You are welcome to have a different opinion, but it will be wrong.
If you missed the damascus finish on these chisels, you'll want to get your eyes checked. An inimitable trademark of the Tasai forge, this pattern is called "Mokume" jigane (tree-grain soft steel), and though a similar name is used by other makers for other finishes, they have all borrowed both the naming and the inspiration from these, the originals.
This pattern is acheived by laminating two specific formulations of steel in alternating thicknesses over and over while hammering in very specific areas in very specific ways.
Once forged back into a homogenous billet, this steel is then used for the body of the chisel and has it's Aogami 1.5 cutting edge laminated to it. Once all the shaping and finishing work has been completed, The chisel is acid-etched. This turns parts of the body black, while others remain a bright silver. The result is the most stunning tool imagineable. And this set contains ten of them.
This set contains 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 24mm, 30mm, 36mm and 42mm chisels in a hand-calligraphied pawlonia box. It is a truly special example of Japanese blacksmithing, and a testament to the skill of the forge of Tasai.
