Large Set of Tapered Bits and Wooden Nails

I recently purchased several sizes of these wooden beech nails. It’s fun using them a bit different from nails & screws & just as effective.
I have finished making a traditional Japanese toolbox with them.

Some boxes I make require them to be dissembled and reassembled and I find them useful for perfect for that. Once the job is done then all Ihave to do is glue them in. They also look good on the finished article.

Suppose you need to make a moving shoulder joint in a marionette or an auromaton/

Get the surfaces placed together seperated by one or two sheets of paper (Experiment)
Drill the hole with this tapered bit
Glue the pointed end into the stock after lining the otherpart with graphite from a 2B pencil

I have used the medium sized nails on a couple of projects and have been very impressed. The first project involved an making a large number of delicate Huon pine boxes. The wooden nails not only reinforced the joints in each corner but due to their tapered profile also negated the time consuming process of clamping up each box as the adhesive cures as they lock into place as they are gently tapped until secure due to their tapered profile. The corresponding drill bits are accurately machined to match the different sizes and tapers the of nails and with their sharp point are easy to position in the correct place similar to a dowelling bit. The timber used to make the nails is hard but not to the point of being difficult to work. The protruding part of the nail can be cut off with a flush cut saw and the remainder pared flush with a sharp chisel.

I'm using these tapered nails and drill bit in musical instrument construction. They are excellent to replace screws and convert a bolt on neck to a glue in neck greatly enhancing sustain.
They are also excellent for repairing splits and cracks that would otherwise be unrepairable.
The holding ability is impressive and the best thing of all no ugly screw heads

These are great, I find myself using the small ones more and more for all sorts of things, even put some in the wall today to hang my goggles and ear muffs on so they aren't taking up valuable bench space. I use them as alignment pins for jigs on the table saw or to stop things moving around on the sanding bench (small bench dogs), also in a box drawer I'm making, using them up through the drawer bottom to secure drawer dividers in a knife box. I like to drill a small pilot hole first to help save the tapered drill from going blunt as fast and gives it something to follow, use the drill on a slow setting to avoid burning or over heating the cutting edge..

So simple to use and can make you woodwork pieces pop. My set of wooden nails arrived super quick as well.

I love my Japanese wooden nails . I just wish I could get some smaller still!!

Purchased these for a specific project - used 86 of them! At first I broke a couple (probably not nailing straight), and then one of two broke on me when nailing too hard. All in all, very satisfied will definitely use over and over. Thanks for a great product.

The Timber Nails are excellent and look so much better than screws.

Excellent alternative to a nail/screw.
Especially if the rest of the build consists of dovetails and rebates etc

Once you move to wooden nails you will never go back (well almost) what a great product - becomes a bit addictive...
