Japanese Smoothing Plane - 42mm

This Plane is a traditional Japanese style plane which cuts on the pull stroke. The blade and chip breaker are held in place by compression and is adjusted with a Japanese hammer or wooden mallet. The blade is made from white paper steel laminated with soft iron. The plane's body is made of Japanese White Oak.

In general, traditional Japanese planes require maintenance to the sole. Kakuri's planes' soles are set up to work as smoothing planes and are slightly relieved behind the blade. They can be set up for jointing or heavier stock removal with some modifications to the sole. Regardless of the configuration of the sole, this plane may require tuning before first use.

In regards to Japanese smoothing planes; please note that the sole of the plane has been prepared ready for use as a smoothing plane, however it may need some adjustment purely because of the nature of wood moving (expanding and contracting).
