Dad’s Japanese Workshop Kit

This is a beautiful tool I really enjoy using. The weight is just right for the the kind of projects I do. I used it to drive my Japanese chisels when doing dovetails and also to hammer in the wooden "nails" through the dovetails to keep them tight (since I am not using glue in this project). Great for precision work, but can also pack quite a punch when held at the end of the handle. Great balance too! Arrived much sooner than first estimated which gave me a nice surprise. I now got the 375gr one and it also arrive way before it was initially estimate. I am very pleased!

Very good tool and easy to use. Good ergonomics. Overall performance is very good Would recommend this product. Have compared it with other Marking gauge that I have and it's performance is on par and in certain situation outperformed the others.

I found the marking tool to be light accurate and prefect for my furniture restoring and cabinet making. It also helps with machine set up and marking out.

My first overall experience with the saw/rasp very sharp which means very clean lines and makes short work especially on mahogany/maple ,... I luv these tools

The Shinto Saw Rasp is one of the best rasps I have ever used. I work mostly with very difficult hard wood species such as Bulloak and red gum, known for their hardness and tear out during hand planing or other surfacing. This rasp is easy to use and offers great control during operation whilst removing heaps of material at the same time.

Best tool ever purchased. Makes my artifacts the smoothest they have ever been.

As with other Shinwa products it is a beautifully precise tool offering a good range of settings and measurements. While it is relatively small, when it is used in conjunction with other rulers and squares, it’s usefulness is greatly extended.

This tool will come in very handy for corner measurements. It is precision crafted and well designed.

Yet to fully put it through its paces but at so far it has proven itself as a high quality and versatile measuring tool. Good value for money.

An affordable option for a marking gauge, and works well. The measurements along the body are quite accurate, though I think they could distort over time with the movement of the wood.
The bamboo laminations are not as aesthetically pleasing as the white oak gauges, but function is the same. The blade is sharp and leaves a nice clean line.

I have had this saw for a decade or longer. Chipped off a tooth at the end and gradually bluntened it on jarrah and myall, so decided it was time for a new blade. Would have liked a 270mm replacement, but 240mm is not so long as to over-reach and buckle the blade if you catch the tip.
Shipping was quick and price for a blade is excellent.

Great product. Ideal for cleaning up dovetail extensions. Fine and medium is all you need. I ground the teeth smooth on the pointed ends and that eliminated scratching of the flat surface

Wow what a pleasure to use. It gives a great result on both the medium and fine sides with the minimum of effort. I am considering getting the companion coarse version

I use this for a bunch of things layout etc but it is great for making sure hinges are squarely attached, it is worth just that one task. Setup it up and leave it.

You can never have too many. And these are among the best.

These Shinto rasps are really useful. I hav owned the coarse/medium for a while and this medium/fine adds another level of refinement to finishing. I have found it particularly useful for fine adjustment of chair leg ends and difficult to plane areas. Good value.

Well made pencils which keep their points well and give an even and consistent line on wood or paper.

After watching other people getting fantastic results from their Shinto saw rasps I finally bought one for myself and all of the love these tools receive is completely justified. The medium/fine rasp quickly and cleanly removes coarse marks and aids in shaping material but doesn't get clogged up like a file can.

I recently purchased a fine/medium Shinto Saw Rasp. I live it! The medium side removes wood quickly and easily. The fine side is also quick to remove material and also leaves a good finish when taking very light passes. This is a great addition to my tool arsenal. No hesitation in recommending this tool

First time I have used a Japanese saw and I can't fault it. I'm relatively new to wood working and I found, compared to saws bought from the big Hardware stores, this saw ticked all the boxes. I'll definitely be looking to expand the range in my toolbox.

I have always used the small block marking gauges, just like my father did and always struggled with keeping the block face on the workpiece and my scratch line would be wobbly. Frustrating! I always thought a longer block would be more stable and I was right. I love this style and the marking blade is awesome for an amateur wood worker like me to use.

Excellent tool. Easy to use and removes material easily. Would recommend as a go to rasp when starting shaping etc.

I am absolutely new to wood working and have no idea if how good this is, but it works perfectly for me, cuts wood I pointed it at quickly and nicely. Looks beautiful, handles comfortably in hands. Nothing much more to say.
