The Shinto saw rasp is the number one selling rasp in Japan. It is the one tool that every woodworker should have in their tool chest/workshop. Please feel free to read its reviews below.

These rasps are made using multiple saw blades joined together in a diamond configuration.They are highly efficient at removing material such in soft woods, hard woods, soft metals and composite materials.

They are also ideal for general shaping work as the tooth configuration will not tear out the grain. On the contrary, they cut the grain fast and effectively. Lastly, the diamond pattern makes the rasp clog resistant.

The Shinto saw rasp is available in three different variants;

  1. 200mm fine 34 TPI / medium 24 TPI
  2. 200mm medium 24 TPI / course 10 TPI
  3. 250mm medium 24 TPI / course 10 TPI

Love my Rasp Saws

After first buying the medium/coarse rasp saw & enjoying using it, I then bought the fine/medium. They have become my most favourite tools. I can strip off the bark & shape the wood of branches quite quickly to make items like bodhran tippers (for playing Irish frame drums). I am 66 & have some arthritis in my fingers & wrists. The rasp saw is so sharp I don’t have to use much force or pressure, it doesn’t clog up, & it doesn’t make fine dust that gets into your eyes & nose. It is quiet. I can sit in the shade & not annoy anyone. It doesn’t need power. I can take it camping. I love it!

SHINTO RASP: A Must have tool

The beauty about this rasp is that it not only can take off a large amount of material when using the course side, but it can do that in a tight right angle, or create a flat surface. I use circular motions when treating a display side of wood, start off with the course side, flip it over to the fine side, and you have no scratches at all. It is designed with gaps going through to each side, which allows the saw dust to just fall to the floor without build up. I’ve even found the tip to be of use when clearing out a cavity. Every wood worker should have one of these!

My first overall experience with the saw/rasp very sharp which means very clean lines and makes short work especially on mahogany/maple ,... I luv these tools ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Shinto Saw Rasp

The Shinto Saw Rasp is one of the best rasps I have ever used. I work mostly with very difficult hard wood species such as Bulloak and red gum, known for their hardness and tear out during hand planing or other surfacing. This rasp is easy to use and offers great control during operation whilst removing heaps of material at the same time.

Best tool ever purchased. Makes my artifacts the smoothest they have ever been.
