Kikuhiromaru Bench Chisels

Description

It's impossible to write a dispassionate description of these beautiful chisels.

Handmade with Shirogami (white paper steel) #1 edges, these chisels are beautifully finished and leave the factory with excellent tolerances to flat on their back, and a very well prepared bevel.

While they require final setup by the user (as with all Japanese chisels), we have found them to be a very easy tool to set up due to their excellent finish.

Their handles have already had their hoops fitted, reducing the work needed to be done by their eventual owner.

The Kikuhiromaru's propensity to take a great edge and hold onto it is phenomenal. We have found them capable of heavy morticing in even the most arduous of Aussie hardwoods without any difficulties, and they will take a shave-ready edge that hangs around far longer than it has any right to.

Available for purchase individually or as a comprehensive 10 piece set that includes 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 15mm, 18mm, 24mm, 30mm, 36mm and 42mm sizes and ships with a chisel roll to keep them protected should they need to travel.

Nice chisels, reasonable price.

A while ago I was searching for a good reasonably priced set of chisels for general woodworking and cabinetry. After considerable research and a chat with Mitch from Japanese Tools Australia, I settled on the set of 10 Kikuhiromaru bench chisels. I’ve just given them their hardest challenge yet, cutting a 100x30mm mortise through 90mm merbau. Merbau is very hard on tools and have previously left large chips in the edges of some of my expensive chisels to my great disappointment. The Kikuhiromaru’s sliced through the timber and left the edges almost as sharp as when I started and not a chip in sight. I was pretty impressed.
They were easy to set up and sharpen, and maintain a great edge for longer than they have any right to. I’m a happy camper and would recommend these chisels to anyone interested in a good quality tool at a reasonable price.

Quality chisel

I've owned the 24mm for around 2 years now. Beautifully crafted, nice even lamination across the bevel, you don't need anymore than this. Setup was easy, sharpens wonderfully to produce fine whispy shavings or quick deep, clean cuts to the second knuckle of my non-dominant middle finger, severing the nerve. Don't get complacent, though it still makes me smile whenever I reach for this beauty.

A good value chisel.

I bought a 30mm to share the load with my 30mm Ouchi which is my absolute favourite and most used chisel. It's a bit lighter , not as hefty as an Ouchi, but it holds a very good edge and has nice balance. Strikes well. If you want the very best and most durable edge, pay the extra for Ouchi, but this brand is a close second. Very impressed. Well worth the money.
