Japanese Smoothing Plane - 48mm

This Plane is a traditional Japanese style plane which cuts on the pull stroke. The blade and chip breaker are held in place by compression and is adjusted with a Japanese hammer or wooden mallet. The blade is made from white paper steel laminated with soft iron. The plane's body is made of Japanese White Oak.

In general, traditional Japanese planes require maintenance to the sole. This plane has been relieved behind the blade and is ready to use. It does not require tuning to the sole of the plane. Some tuning to the supporting timber around the blade may be require before first use.

In regards to Japanese smoothing planes; please note that the sole of the plane has been prepared ready for use as a smoothing plane and so no adjustments are required for this, however timber planes may need some adjustment purely because of the nature of wood moving (expanding and contracting).
