Baishinshi Double Marking Knife - 2 Screws

$108.00

Description

This specialist tool is designed to simplify to process of marking delicate half-lap joints required for shoji screens.

Baishinshi is a brand produced by a blacksmithing family who has been forging carving knives and chisels for more than 250 years. Currently the 7th generation took over as "Baishinshi Kunimitsu", the family blacksmith name.

Whereas a single kiridashi allows the craftsperson to mark and cut the first side of the joint before marking and cutting the second side of the joint., the double marking knife for kumiko allows two parrellel knife lines to be laid down simultaneously.

When set accurately to reflect the thickness of the framing stock, it speeds up the marking and cutting of shoji by allowing both sides of the joint to be marked and then cut in one process.

In contrast to our other model of double marking knife for kumiko, this tool uses a second secrew that is tapped into one arm only and can be wound in and out. The second screw adds a little more holding pressure to the blade, and can also be used as a stop - if the distance between the two blades needs to be adjusted for some reason, the second screw can be used as a reference in order to return them to their original positioning.

To sharpen the blades, remove the screws and pivot the blades open at the rivet.

Please note that neither of the screws can be reversed, and so right handers will find this more comfortable to use than left handers.

Overall Length: 145mm
Blade Length: 18mm
Maximum Distance Between Blades: 15mm
Minimum Distance Between Blades: 2mm
